In today’s digital economy, speed, security, and simplicity are essential when it comes to choosing payment methods. Whether you’re paying for university tuition, booking a flight, or settling a bill with a government agency, knowing that your payment will arrive in the right place, instantly and securely, brings peace of mind.
That’s where Azupay, PayID, and PayTo come in. Many Australians have chosen to use Azupay payment solutions, often without knowing it.
Let’s unpack what these innovations are, how they work, and why businesses and consumers across Australia are trusting Azupay for real-time payments.
What is PayID?
PayID is a simple, smart alternative to bank account numbers when making payments. Instead of remembering long BSB and account numbers, you can send money using a registered PayID — typically an email address, mobile number, or ABN — that is linked to the recipient’s bank account.
When you enter an Azupay PayID into your Australian banking app, you’ll have important information about the payment shown to you in real time before confirming the transaction. With Azupay’s unique PayIDs this always includes:
- The Payee Company Name
- A payment description or reference that should be meaningful for you or your transaction
This helps you confirm you’re paying the right person or business, making it much harder to fall victim to scams or payment errors.
If you think you are paying an Azupay PayID and you do not see this information when you enter the PayID into your own banking app then this is a red flag you should be careful about.
Sometimes you will also have shown to you the exact payment amount – but this depends on the situation so do not worry if this is missing.
What is PayTo?
PayTo is the next generation of direct debit operated by the NPP — fast, transparent, and fully controlled by you.
Instead of filling out forms or waiting days for a direct debit to be set up, PayTo lets you authorise payment agreements instantly through your banking app. Once approved, businesses can initiate real-time payments from your bank account — within limits you set and with your consent. You can:
- See and approve all PayTo Agreements directly in your banking app
- Pause or cancel them anytime
- Enjoy instant settlement with full visibility
For Australian businesses, this means fewer failed payments, faster cash flow, and better customer experiences. For payers, it’s greater control and real-time transparency.
With PayTo Agreements being approved in your banking app and real-time account to account payments PayTo can also be used when you might be used to credit card or debit card payments such as in ecommerce, retailers, digital wallet top ups and other examples you might not expect to use direct debit.

How Azupay Ensures Secure PayID Payments
Azupay is committed to making PayID payments safe and scam-resistant.
Here’s how:
1. Azupay will NEVER ask for your identity documents or bank login details when you’re making a payment to an Azupay-supported merchant. If someone does, it’s not us — and it’s not legitimate.
2. All official Azupay PayIDs are in email format, using the domain of the business you are paying. For example, if you’re paying a government department, the PayID domain (segment after the @ symbol) will look something like: …@service.nsw.gov.au
3. We NEVER ask you to send money to a PayID with ‘azupay’ in the domain – if you are asked to pay to a PayID with ‘azupay’ in the domain this is probably a scammer pretending to be us
4. When you enter a PayID into your bank’s payment screen, always check that:
- The Payee Name matches the business you expect to pay
- The amount and payment description align with what you expect
If anything looks off or raises a red flag for you do not proceed — if you know the business you are trying to pay reach out them using an email or phone number you can trust, otherwise contact ScamWatch, an initiative of the ACCC.
Why This Matters
In an era where fraud and phishing scams are increasing, secure real-time payments are more important than ever. Azupay’s integration of PayID and PayTo offers an unmatched combination of:
- Faster payments (settled in seconds)
- Fewer errors (you see the details upfront)
- More control (you approve every transaction)
Whether you’re a large enterprise, government agency, or individual consumer, Azupay helps ensure every payment is instant, accurate, and secure.
